Have you changed & left your style behind?

It's spring of course, and the turn of a season is a good time to think about change, but what happens if YOU are the one changing? Maybe you've got a brand new baby, or a new career venture, or perhaps a break up or divorce happens. What if the change is internally complicated, like finally getting over something that's been holding you back, doing hard work around forgiveness, or becoming otherwise enlightened? What if you're this whole new person, living with a closet full of clothes that belong to the person you were before?

If you're walking around wearing what feels like a stranger's clothes (or even just a close friend's clothes), your style could be holding you back. Because it's hard to feel fully comfortable and truly yourself if your style hasn't made a shift with you when you go through a big change. So what do you do when you find yourself changing and want that change to be expressed through your personal style?

Create a YOU list

So, what has changed for you? Sometimes identifying a shift generally will start getting the wheels turning style-wise. So say it out loud, or write it down. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do I most want to be noticed for, both in my phyisicality and my personality?
  • What are the 3 things I love most about myself, and want to share with the world?

Got something good here? If you want to take it a tad deeper, ask a couple friends what 3 things they notice most or value most about you. If you're brave, you can even do this on facebook. Reflect on how your answers align with your friends' answers.

Take it to the Closet

Now it's time to take your data to the closet. Do you feel like your transition has been towards openness, or perhaps you feel a renewed sense of freedom in life? Does your closet reflect the richness of possibilty you now possess?

  • Take a hard look at the clothes you wear the most. What 3 words would you use to describe them?
  • Go through and reflect on which (if any) clothes in your closet DO possess the qualities you described in the first exercise

I know, this is a little woo-woo, but it works! You will find yourself with 2 piles of clothes and lots of juicy stuff to think about.

Seek Inspiration

How much of what you have in your closet can you confidently say reflects who you are now? If it's not a lot, it's probably time to seek some inspiration so you can really dive into your style shift. The easiest way to seek out inspiration images is to either old school it with the fashion mags, or hop on pinterest.

  • Cut out or pin any image that strikes you. Don't think about it too deeply, just pin if it moves you.
  • Once you have a collection, examine your images for connections. Do the images you're drawn to align with your 3 words from above?

Now you can start to use the information and images to build your refreshed style, as it will now be a truer reflection of who you are now.

I'm working on a juicy new way to support you in your desire to shift your style along with who you are (or are becoming) so stay tuned for more! Want to talk about what's going on for you more deeply? Sign up for a free style strategy call today.
